Dorothy Louise Snider Surles created the Dorothy Snider Foundation in her Will when she passed away in November 1969. Her instructions were for proceeds from the Foundation to be made available to Arkansas and Tennessee students for the study of medicine, law, theology, business, natural sciences, and “scientific fields.” Grants also could be made for research. The grants are administered through a trustee and six-member board, now known as the DSF Distribution Committee.
Each year, the Distribution Committee provides over $250,000 in scholarships, mostly to medical and nursing students. Scholarship applications are by invitation only. If you recently received a scholarship, you can find information below on where to send questions, thank yous, etc. We hope that one day you will join us in supporting the future of the Foundation.
Mrs. Surles grew up in Manila, Ark. during the 1920’s and 30’s. She remained in the region throughout her life, moving to Memphis, Tenn. where she passed away November 22, 1969. Her legacy lives on through the lives and education the hundreds of young healthcare providers that her Foundation has helped support over the decades.
